Its most populous nation is India (around 1,417,492,000 people), while the least populous is Brunei.
The largest country in Asia by area is China at about 9,706,961 km², and the smallest is Maldives at about 300 km². Of the 49 countries, 12 are landlocked and 8 are island nations with no land borders. The continent is bordered by the Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean.
On average each country in Asia covers about 654,312 km² and is home to about 96,284,922 people, though the real spread is wide. The three most populous—India, China and Indonesia—together account for roughly 66% of everyone living on the continent.
The countries of Asia use 50 different official currencies and recognise 42 languages between them; the most widely shared is the Indian rupee (INR, ₹), official in 2 of them. At the smaller end of the scale, the three least populous countries are Brunei, Maldives and Bhutan.
